Types Of Funds

There is no one-size-fits-all solution for managing your charitable giving. That's why we offer a variety of giving options to serve Donors who create funds. Establishing funds that honor the wishes of our Donors is our specialty. Whether your fund focuses only on our local community or includes charitable interests throughout the United States, we work with you to build a plan that meets your needs.

Funds may be either endowed, so that 5% of the total fund balance is available to grant each year, or non-endowed, which means 100% of the funds are available to grant at
any time.

We offer Donors three options for establishing funds, each of which may be either endowed or non-endowed. Our minimum balance to establish a fund is $25,000.

1. Donor Advised Funds
Achieve tax-planning goals while still advising on the use of your gift over time. Work with our grantmaking staff to identify ways to use dollars from your Donor Advised Fund to address the issues and needs you care about most. Your recommendations are submitted to our Board for approval; we then distribute grant dollars. For more information on this very popular type of fund click on >> Donor Advised Funds

2. Designated Funds
Direct (or designate) your gift to a specific charity or purpose. Help provide ongoing funding for a senior center, museum, your church, or virtually any nonprofit charitable organization. You identify the recipient or recipients you wish to benefit through your gift; our staff manages the annual distribution of funds.

3. Field of Interest Funds
Target your gift to address needs in an important area of community life. The arts. Aging. At-risk youth. You identify your area of interest when you make your gift; our Board awards grants to community agencies and programs that are making a difference in the area you choose.

Or, Give to the Community Trust Fund

If  you have a one-time opportunity or lack the minimum fund balance to open a separate fund, make a gift to our Community Trust Fund.  Your gift will be used to meet ever-changing community needs -- including future needs that often cannot be anticipated at the time your gift is made. The Community Trust Fund is an endowed fund, and the only unrestricted fund at CFGJ. We run an annual competitive grants cycle, and our grants committee evaluates all aspects of community needs -- arts and culture, economic development, education, environment, health, neighborhood revitalization—in making its granting decisions. The flexibility of an unrestricted gift enables our program staff to respond to the community's most pressing needs, today and tomorrow. For a list of our 2013-2014 grantees, click here>>
